London: Amruta Fadnavis, the wife of Maharashtra deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, was honoured with the ‘Indian of the World’ award at the British Parliament.
“It was an honour to speak on ‘Indo-UK relations’ at UK Parliament and also received ‘Indian of the World’ award at UK Parliament,” she tweeted along with pictures.
A banker, singer and activist, Amruta hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating that it was due to his efforts Indo-UK relations have become robust and are expanding at federal, state and local levels.
Fadnavis landed in London on June 29 and visited the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, where she performed a special puja and prayed for the stability and prosperity of Maharashtra.
Amruta’s visit to the UK coincided with the culmination of political crisis in Maharashtra wherein Shiv Sena rebel Eknath Shinde became the chief minister and her husband Devendra as his deputy, albeit unwillingly.
Devendra Fadnavis, who had served as CM from 2014 to 2019, initially announced at a press conference that he won’t be a part of the new state government but will extend full support to Shinde and his cabinet. BJP’s central leadership, however, directed him to take up the role of deputy CM.
