London: British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is expected to resign on Thursday after being hit by over 50 resignations from his government in protest over his leadership.
Michelle Donelan resigned as Education Secretary just 35 hours after her appointment.
Johnson’s new chancellor Nadhim Zahawi also publicly urged him to “do the right thing and go now”, the Independent reported.
The rebellion came after it emerged Johnson promoted Chris Pincher to a role with responsibility for MPs’ welfare despite knowledge of misconduct claims against him, the Independent report said.
“Boris Johnson will resign as Conservative Party leader today,” BBC Political Editor Chris Mason said on Twitter.
