Bhubaneswar: After scrutiny of nominations filed by candidates for elections to urban local bodies (ULBs), the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has released the list of contestants.
As many as 355 aspiring candidates had filed nominations for the posts of ward corporators and mayor in the BMC from March 2 to 7. After the scrutiny of the nominations was completed on March 9 as per schedule, 354 papers have been found valid.
Total 343 nominations were filed for the post of 67 ward corporators and one was rejected, leaving 342 candidates to contest in the election.
The papers filed by all 12 candidates for mayor post have been declared valid. The post is reserved for woman candidate.
The last date of withdrawal of nominations is March 14. The election will be held on March 24 and the results declared after counting of the votes on March 26.
As per the notification of the State Election Commission (SEC), the three municipal corporations in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and Berhampur will go for direct election of mayor along with chairperson of 106 municipalities and NACs.
