Bhubaneswar: The State Election Commission (SEC) has directed the local and police administration of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack to strictly enforce law and order during the election to the urban local bodies (ULBs) in the Twin Cities.
Reviewing the preparation for the polling to be held for election to different posts of Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) and Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on March 24, state election commissioner Aditya Prasad Padhi directed the senior officials to ensure strict compliance of model code of conduct and take stern action against those violating it.
“The polling must be conducted in a fair and transparent manner in the two cities. No measures should be left wanted for the purpose,” Padhi said. He also directed the district administrations to stress on booths exclusively for women and model booths.
Police Commissioner of Twin Cities Soumendra Priyadarshi said adequate security arrangements would be made in all booths of the cities during the polling to maintain law and order.
BMC Commissioner Sanjay Kumar Singh said total 33 centres would be opened for smooth distribution of polling materials among the officials on the day.
Among others, secretary, SEC Rabindranath Sahoo, special secretary Raghuram R Iyer, ADG (Law & Order) RK Sharma, Khurda collector Sangram Keshari Mohapatra, Cuttack collector Bhabani Shankar Chayani and CMC Commissioner Arhana Das attended the meeting.
