Malkangiri: Police have seized more than Rs 3 lakh unaccounted cash from an SUV on way to Chhattisgarh from Odisha’s Malkangiri.
According to sources, a flying squad headed by in-charge magistrate and assistant collector Alekh Bhoi of Malkangiri was patrolling in Chalanguda on Tuesday in order to keep an eye on illegal transport of liquor, drugs and cash for elections in the two states.
As part of the drive, the police intercepted the SUV going to Chhattisgarh from Malkangiri town. On checking the vehicle, they found Rs 3.70 lakh in cash. The vehicle was driven by Chituram Thakur of Malkangiri and another occupant identified as Jasraj Bhutada.
On questioned by the squad members about the cash, they could not produce any document nor give satisfactory answer about its source. They identified themselves as businessmen and said they were going to Chhattisgarh.
The police seized the money and detained the two persons for further investigation.
