Bhubaneswar: To clear the public access to the Multi-Level Car Parking (MLCP) under construction here, a joint squad of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC), Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) and Bhubaneswar Smart City Ltd along with police on Saturday removed unauthorised shops at Kargil Vending Zone, Unit-II.
The squad, during the drive, demolished 24 shops and one AC shed house. Unauthorised roadside vendors from Kalpana Square to Rabi Talkies were also evicted.
The BMC took to Twitter informing about the same:
The MLCP will help to reduce traffic congestion in the crowded market area. It will have two basements (lower and upper), ground and above 7 floors of construction that will accommodate a minimum of 450 Equivalent Car Spaces (ECS). All the floors above the parking floors will be used for commercial purpose.
“The cloth stores near Unit-II parking area were also evicted as per instructions of Additional Commissioner. The vendors objected to it and showed high court order but we had to evict them as they didn’t submit that same in the BMC grievance cell,” said a BMC press release.
The eviction drive was conducted in presence of Additional Commissioner, BMC, EO-II BDA, ZDC, SEZ BMC, MLCP project officials/Officers of BSCL, IIC Capital police station, enforcement squads of BDA/BMC (SEZ) with the police force, it added.
