Balasore: An under-trial prisoner (UTP) allegedly escaped from a jail in Odisha’s Balasore district on Thursday.
According to sources, the UTP lodged in the sub-jail located at Mulisingh village under Soro block managed to give a slip to the guards and scaled the boundary wall to escape. Identified as Sudam of Thakurmunda in Mayurbhanj, he was facing trial as an accused in a rape case.
Jailor of the sub-jail Priyambada Panda did not comment on the escape of the UTP.
It may be noted that the sub-jail has been in the news for several irregularities recently. A prisoner had allegedly committed suicide in the toilet its toilet while some inmates were also beaten up in another incident.
Following complaints, the police had also seized mobile phones from the inmates of the jail. Besides, there have been complaints against jail officials for serving poor quality food to the inmates.
