Sambalpur: An undertrial prisoner of Jayapatna jail in Kalahandi district died while undergoing treatment at Sambalpur district headquarters hospital on Sunday.
The deceased has been identified as Prasanna Sahu.
On Thursday, Sahu told the jail authorities that he was feeling unwell. Following which, the authorities admitted him to the hospital.
However, his health condition suddenly deteriorated while undergoing treatment this morning. Later, the doctors declared him dead.
“Sahu was booked on murder charges and serving life imprisonment”, a police officer said.
An inquiry will be conducted to ascertain the exact reason behind his death, the officer added.
On April 29, an undertrial prisoner identified as Sibaram Pradhan of Digapahandi area had also died at Chhatrapur Sub-jail in Ganjam district.
He was behind the bars since last eight months in connection with an illegal ganja smuggling case.
