Bhubaneswar: An undertrial prisoner of Nimapara sub-jail in Puri district died during treatment on Friday night.
The deceased prisoner has been identified as Munabara Biswal, hailing from Astaranga in the district.
Biswal was lodged behind the bars after being accused in a murder case.
According to sources, Biswal was rushed to Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar after he fell sick yesterday. However, he died while undergoing treatment at the hospital.
The reason behind the prisoner’s death is being investigated. His family members have been informed about the incident, the sources said.
In a similar incident, on August 28, an undertrial prisoner lodged in Jharsuguda sub-jail died at the district headquarters hospital.
The deceased, identified as Binod Kishan (34), had been behind bars since June 18, 2014, for his alleged involvement in a murder case.
A case was registered against him under Section 498 (a) 302 of IPC.
Soon after the prayer in the jail, the prisoner complained about uneasiness, following which he was immediately taken to the district headquarters hospital, where the doctors declared him brought dead.
