Rourkela: One among 12 undertrial prisoners died under mysterious circumstances while being taken to Rourkela from Bargarh in Odisha by Raghunathpali police on Sunday.
The deceased has been identified as Anirban Karji. He was a part of 13-members inter-state gang. All the accused from West Bengal were lodged in Bargarh jail since September 24.
According to sources, the UTP was rushed to Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences And Research (VIMSAR) Hospital as his condition deteriorated but doctors there declared him brought dead. Another undertrial prisoner also fell sick and has been admitted to the hospital.
“The incident took place when the undertrial prisoners were being taken from Bargarh to Rourkela in connection with a cheating case,” informed Rourkela SP Mitrabhanu Mohapatra.
