Burla: An undertrial prisoner died while undergoing treatment at Veer Surendra Sai Medical College and Hospital in Burla on Saturday evening.
Bargarh police had arrested Ranjit Patnaik on May 5 for allegedly misbehaving with a minor girl. He was in Bargarh jail since then. Sources said Patnaik was admitted to the district headquarters hospital in Bargarh on May 11 after he fell ill.
He was shifted to VSSMCH when his health condition deteriorated on May 16. He died while undergoing treatment on Sunday evening. His family members alleged he died because of the jail authority’s negligence. Investigations are on in this matter.
