Jajpur: An under-trial prisoner lodged in a sub-jail allegedly died by suicide in Odisha’s Jajpur district on Wednesday.
The incident reportedly took place in Ragadi sub-jail located in Korai area of the district. The deceased was identified as Balam Behera.
As per information, Behera allegedly hung himself with a towel in a newly constructed medical facility on the prison premises.
Security personnel rushed him to a nearby community health centre (CHC) where doctors declared him brought dead.
On being informed, police personnel from Korai and Jajpur Road visited the site for an investigation into the incident. The body was seized and sent for postmortem.
Probe is in progress and efforts are on to ascertain the circumstances that led to the incident.
