Mayurbhanj: Six days after escaping from the sub-jail in Odisha’s Balasore district, an undertrial prisoner was arrested from Sarat village in Mayurbhanj district on Wednesday.
According to sources, a sub-jailer was also suspended over the incident.
The prisoner, identified as Sudam, was lodged in the sub-jail located at Mulisingh village under Soro block. He was facing trial in a rape case.
He managed to give the guards a slip, scaled the jail boundary wall and escaped on September 1.
It may be noted that the sub-jail has been in news for several irregularities recently. A prisoner allegedly committed suicide in its toilet while some inmates were also beaten up in another incident.
Following complaints, the police had seized mobile phones from the inmates of the jail. Besides, there have been complaints against jail officials for allegedly serving poor quality food to the inmates.
