Angul: A young woman was found dead under mysterious circumstances in Odisha’s Angul district on Sunday morning.
According to sources, locals spotted a body hanging from a neem tree near check gate along National Highway-53, close to Rengali village under the Kaniha block in Pallahara tehsil and informed police, who immediately reached the spot and sent it for postmortem.
She is believed to be aged around 20 to 22 years, though her identity is not known. Her body reportedly bore several injury marks, raising immediate questions about the circumstances of her death.
Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death. While scientific team reached the spot to gather clues, CCTV footage from the nearby areas are being scanned to track suspicious movement at the crime scene.
Sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) of Pallahara Kailash Chandra Sethi and Inspector-in-charge (IIC) of Rengali police station visited the spot to oversee the probe.
Meanwhile, locals said they suspect that the woman was murdered elsewhere and her body later placed at the site to pass it off as a case of suicide.
