Kataka: An unidentified young woman was found dead on the banks of the Kathajodi river in Odisha’s Kataka on Wednesday evening, in what police suspect is a brutal murder.
According to sources, local residents found the body and soon personnel from Badambadi and Purighat police stations rushed to the scene and secured the area. Preliminary findings indicated that the body bore visible deep cut marks and severe physical injuries, raising strong suspicions of foul play. A mat, a cooking utensil (kadhai), paper plates, a plastic bag and other personal items were found about 30-40 metres from the body, leading police to believe the woman may have been present at the site for a meal or gathering before the attack.
Police seized the body and sent it to SCB Medical College and Hospital for postmortem.
While the identity of the deceased remains unknown, police have begun reviewing missing person reports from local stations while examining the circumstances leading to her death. “Efforts are underway to establish the woman’s identity and determine if foul play was involved,” a police officer said.
