Bhubaneswar: The speculations over the Women’s Reservation Bill getting approval of the Parliament in the special session were further strengthened as the Cabinet reportedly approved it on Monday evening.
A bill to ensure 33% reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and state legislative assemblies was cleared by the Union cabinet, a report of NDTV said quoting sources.
However, the government has not made any official announcement in this regard. The government skipped the customary press briefing after the Cabinet meeting.
Earlier, speaking in Lok Sabha on the first day of the special session on the day, the Prime Minister dropped a huge hint on the possibility of the Bill being passed in the new Parliament building where the rest of the session would continue from Tuesday.
Stating that this session will be remembered historically, the Prime Minister spoke on immense contribution of the elected women MPs and MLAs to the democratic process in the country.
Besides, meetings of senior ministers of the Cabinet and BJP leaders added to the speculations. Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi held a meeting with Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP president JP Nadda.
