Bhubaneswar: Union Minister for Education Dharmendra Pradhan will announce three Artificial Intelligence Centres of Excellence (CoE) on October 15.

The AI CoEs will be announced on Healthcare, Agriculture, and Sustainable Cities, according to a release of Ministry of Education on Monday.

“In order to realise the vision of “Viksit Bharat”, these three CoEs for Artificial Intelligence (AI) will be led by top educational institutions, in consortium with industry partners and startups. They will conduct interdisciplinary research, develop cutting-edge applications and create scalable solutions in these three areas. This initiative aims at galvanising an effective AI ecosystem and nurture quality human resources in these critical fields,” said the release.

The establishment of these centres was announced in 2023-24 Union Budget as part of the vision to “Make AI in India and Make AI work for India”. The Centre has approved the three AI Centres of Excellence with an outlay of Rs 990 crore for four years from 2023-24 financial year to 2027-28.

An industry heavy apex committee, co-chaired by Dr Sridhar Vembu, Founder and CEO of Zoho Corporation, has been constituted to oversee the implementation of this initiative, the release stated.
