Rourkela: Augmented ICU ventilator facilities at Ispat Post Graduate Institute (IPGI) and Super Specialty Hospital (SSH) of SAIL at Rourkela in Odisha were inaugurated by Union Minister for Steel and Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan on Thursday.
In view of the steep rise in number of critically ill COVID patients in the region during the second wave, urgent need for oxygen as well as assisted ventilation is the need of the hour, said Pradhan after the virtual inauguration.
First it was decided to operate a 60-bed COVID ICU facility and subsequently it was decided to upgrade the facility to a 100-bed ICU, said the Minister.
The upgraded ICU facility will bolster Odisha’s fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, he added.
The virtual inauguration event was also attended by Minister of State for Steel Faggan Singh Kulaste, Health Minister Naba Kisore Das, MP from Sundargarh JualOram, MLAs from the area, chairperson and CEO of SAIL Soma Mondal and senior officers of the Ministry of Steel and SAIL.
The IPGI and SSH complex was inaugurated by President Ram Nath Kovind on March 21.
