Bhubaneswar: Amid fake certificate rackets in several parts of the country, the Central government plans to launch a Unique Identity system for students to check the menace.

This information was given by Chairman of National Educational Technology Forum (NETF), Anil Sahasrabudhe. He was speking to media on the sidelines of the G20 3rd Education Working Group (EdWG) meeting in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday.

Stating that there is an urgent need for putting in place an Education Ecosystem Registry, Sahasrabudhe said students should be provided with Aadhaar-based unique identity.

Such unique identity will enable a student to save all his information at one place, apart from allowing them not to fill the admission forms while changing educational institutes in the same state or elsewhere. The authenticity of students can also be known through the system.

Draft documents of the proposed system has been shared on the website for feedback from people till May 5. The registration will begin in August and Unique ID will be linked with Aadhaar card. This digitalisation not only bring transparency but also curb the use of fake certificates to secure a job, he said.

The move comes amid fake educational certificate rackets being unearthed in several parts of Odisha. A major fake certificate racket having pan-India network was busted in Balangir district wehre a large number of fake certificates were seized from a coaching centre.

It may be noted that the Crime Branch of Odisha police has reportedly found Uttar Pradesh Board officials’ link in the scam.
