Berhampur: Police busted a unit producing hair oil of a company of national repute in Berhampur city of Odisha’s Ganjam district on Sunday.
The raid followed a complaint lodged by Kolkata-based Shalimar Hair Oil company with the police alleging that spurious product of their company was being sold in and around Berhampur city. Following investigation, a team from Bada Bazaar Police conducted a raid on the unit located in Lane 4 of Shastri Nagar of the city.
The police seized a huge quantity of raw materials and machineries used to produce the duplicate hair oil during the raid. Several packaging items including the bottles and tin containers of different shapes and colours, printed papers of Shalimar and its logo were also seized from the unit.
Shalimar’s legal advisor Somnath Banerjee told the media that the company came to know about sale of its duplicate hair oil in Berhampur and its surrounding areas about five months back. “The name, logo, design and colour of the Shalimar brand were used on the bottles and tin containers having spurious oil. We had filed a complaint with police around a month back,” he said.
Banerjee alleged that the unit was using liquid paraffin to produce the hair oil. But Shalimar produces the oil from the coconuts through natural process, he added.
