Universal Health Coverage: Odisha Medical Team Wins National Award

Bhubaneswar: A medical team from Odisha’s Kendrapada district won the National award for exemplary service at Health and Wellness Centres during a function on Universal Health Coverage Day in New Delhi on Thursday.

The team, comprising doctors and para-medical staff, were recognised for screening more than 25 lakhs people for major non-communicable diseases during 2018-19..

Medical Officer of Olaver Health and Wellness Centres Dr Soumya Ranjan Nayak, Community Health Officer Rasmita Samal, ANM Sachi Mishra, and ASHA Ranjita Mandal of Jamboo Sub-centre under Mahakalpada CHC received the award from Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan and Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Ashwini Kumar Choubey.

The National Health Mission (NHM) Odisha under the leadership of Health and Family Welfare Department Secretary, Dr Pramod Meherda and NHM Managing Director, Salini Pandit, has taken multiple efforts to ensure Universal Health Coverage to the people of Odisha, the Health and Family Welfare Department said in a press release.

People aged more than 30 years are being screened for major non-communicable diseases including diabetes, hypertension, oral cancer, breast cancer and cervical cancer.

During 2019-20 the Department is targeting to screen more than 45 lakhs for major non-communicable diseases, it added.
