New Delhi: A 23-year-old gang rape victim, who was set on fire by the very men accused of raping her in Uttar Pradesh’s Unnao, died at Safdarjung hospital here on Friday night.

The victim, who had suffered 90 per cent burns after she was set on fire on Thursday, died of a cardiac arrest around 11:40 pm. She was air-lifted to Delhi from Uttar Pradesh on Thursday evening.

The woman’s body was taken to the hospital’s forensic department for post-mortem. The body will then be handed over to her family, police said.

In her statement to police, the woman said she was thrashed and stabbed before being set on fire near her village in Unnao by five men, including two she had accused of raping her. She was on her way to a court hearing in her rape complaint when the assailants accosted her near a railway station.
