Bhubaneswar: A Guwahati-bound Indigo flight from Hyderabad made an emergency landing here on Sunday morning after a passenger on board allegedly resorted to unruly behaviour and scared passengers.
The flight (6e 462) landed at 6.10 AM under full emergency protocols. The passenger, identified as Irshad Ali (20), was deboarded and handed over to the airport police.
The crew accused Irshad of creating a ruckus on board. Passengers felt threatened. Despite repeated warnings from the airline crew, he kept moving around in complete violation of civil aviation rules.
According to the airline, Ali tried to open the flight door, but was restrained from doing so by some of the passengers and one Abdul Karim, who was accompanying him.
Media reports suggested the passenger was of “unstable mind” and was taken to Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar. The reports added that Karim was also deboarded.
The flight took off for Guwahati after an hour at 7.13 AM, an airport statement said.
What next:
If Irshad is found to be suffering from a mental condition, he might be set free. However, if his action on board was deliberate, he could even lose the rights to fly for the rest of his life, according to the civil aviation rules notified a couple of years ago.
