Jeypore: To ensure the safety of schoolchildren, the Koraput district administration has decided to relocate unsafe power lines and infrastructure from areas near schools.
According to reports, Collector Madhusudan Mishra has instructed the Southco authorities to complete the relocation work as soon as possible.
Mishra has also directed the BDOs and executive officers of different rural and urban areas to take steps to relocate Anganwadi centers with unsafe electric lines.
Sources said unguarded transformers, hanging cables and live wires have been detected and taken note of at 97 spots across 14 blocks and 4 urban bodies in the district.
General Manager of Southco, Jeypore, Manmath Mishra has also directed junior engineers and sub-divisional officers to remove the unsafe power lines.
The initiative has been taken by the government following the Ganjam bus tragedy in which 10 people were electrocuted and burnt to death after a bus carrying 40 passengers, came in contact with 11 KV live wire on the road.
