New Delhi: Two empty chairs – one each for jailed Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal and former Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren – stood out on the stage at INDIA bloc’s ‘Ulgulan (uprising) Nyay’ rally in Ranchi as the opposition put up a mega show of strength on Sunday.
The rally was attended by several leaders of the INDIA bloc, including Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Yadav, former Bihar deputy chief minister Tejashwi Yadav, Samajwadi Party National President Akhilesh Yadav, JMM supremo Shibu Soren, National Conference president Farooq Abdullah, Arvind Kejriwal’s wife Sunita and Hemant Soren’s wife Kalpana.
The word ‘Ulugulan’, which means revolution, was coined during Birsa Munda’s fight against the British for the rights of the tribals.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, however, had to give it a miss as he was keeping unwell. “Shri Rahul Gandhi was all set to campaign today in Satna and Ranchi where the INDIA rally is being held. He took ill suddenly and is unable to leave New Delhi for the present. Congress President Shri Mallikarjun Kharge ji is of course attending the Ranchi rally after addressing a public gathering in Satna,” senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh posted on X.
According to sources, Prabhat Tara ground in Ranchi was decked for the ‘second biggest rally’ of INDIA bloc after Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest in the liquor scam. The first was in Delhi.
