New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh’s Firozabad saw 53 deaths, including 45 children, in a suspected dengue outbreak over the past 10 days. This has prompted the government to probe into it.
Horrifying scenes were witnessed at the Firozabad medical college. Children lying down in rows suffering from fever and their worried parents praying for recovery.
Lucky, 6, had been suffering from fever for the last three days and his family rushed him to the government hospital. “Ten minutes before we could reach Agra, he breathed his last,” Lucky’s uncle was quoted as saying by NDTV.
In another case, Sunil was sitting by his son Abhijit’s side. Three days ago, his daughter Anjali died of a fever. “About six days back, both my children were down with a fever; my daughter has passed away and my son is admitted now,” Sunil said.
With 186 people currently lodged in hospital including a high number of affected children, district magistrate Chandra Vijay Singh has ordered the closure of both government-run and private schools for Classes I-VIII till September 6.
