Lucknow: After a man in Uttar Pradesh lodged a complaint with police alleging that his wife had eloped with a beggar, Police on Tuesday evening issued a clarification countering the former’s claim.
The police clarification came after the woman in question appeared before the cops. The woman reportedly refuted her husband’s claims and presented her side of the story.
The woman’s husband, identified as Raju, lodged a complaint with the Harpalpur police station in Hardoi district. He had alleged that his wife left their home on January 3 under the pretence of going to the market.
Raju had also alleged that his wife took away Rs 1.6 lakh in cash along with jewellery and other valuables. According to Raju, he had observed his wife interacting with the beggar, identified as Nanhe Pandit, on multiple occasions but never suspected the situation would escalate to this extent, reported India Today. Nanhe Pandit is a native of Khidkiyan neighbourhood in Sandhi.
“Nanhe Pandit, the beggar, took my wife away. When I checked, their phone numbers were switched off. Later, I searched the house and found that not only was my wife missing but also our valuables and cash. There was at least Rs 1.6 lakh in cash, along with jewellery. We have six children, and I have been married for 20 years. Nanhe Pandit is the son of Prem Sagar. We want the police to find him, register a case, and ensure my wife is returned to us,” Raju had stated, as quoted by India Today.
However, Hardoi Police described Raju’s allegations as “untrue and baseless,” in an official statement. The woman provided her account of the events and claimed she left home to stay with a relative due to daily abuse and physical assault by her husband.
