Lucknow: With BJP almost certain of retaining power in Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath is set to break a 37-year-old jinx. It will be the first time since 1985 that a ruling party wins back-to-back elections in the state with most number of assembly seats.
According to the latest update in Election Commission of India website, BJP leads in 245 out of the 403 constituencies in UP – well clear of the magic mark of 202 – while Samajwadi Party is ahead in 121 seats.
The chief minister is miles ahead of his SP rival, having polled 65,800 votes against 21,375.
“We already knew we will again form the government… we have worked for all developmental aspects which is why the public trusts us. Nothing can come in front of a bulldozer, as it can finish everything within a minute, be it cycle or anything else,” said ‘Dreamgirl’ Hema Malini who is a BJP MP.
Union minister Jitendra Singh said myths have been exploded under the able leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“UP hardly repeats a government. But Modi ji’s leadership and Yogi ji’s implementation of projects have helped the double engine government to overcome the anti-incumbency factor,” Singh said.
