Kanpur: A nursing student in Uttar Pradesh’s Safai was allegedly stabbed to death with a screwdriver by her lover, who then kept roaming with the body for around seven hours before dumping it.
The accused, Mahendra Batham, was arrested after an encounter with the police on Friday, and admitted to having killed her over suspicion that she had an affair with another youth.
Based on a complaint filed by the victim’s mother, police took Mahendra to the spot where he had disposed of the screwdriver. He, however, opened fire on them with a pistol hidden in the field. A bullet hit the bonnet of Vaidpura SO Samit Kumar’s car following which police retaliated. The accused was shot in the leg and later admitted to the district hospital.
According to police, Mahendra picked up the victim from her hostel at 11 am and went on a drive. Mahendra forbade her from talking to her college friend which led to an argument and Mahendra slapped her. The girl slapped Mahendra too, which angered him and he stabbed her in the neck with a screwdriver kept in the dashboard of the car.
The nursing student was alive for some time and succumbed around noon.
An FIR under various sections including 302 and 120 (B) of Indian Penal Code has been registered against Mahendra, his uncle Ram Prakash and his brother Arvind. Ram Prakash has also been arrested while Arvind is on the run.
