UP Woman Takes Her Own Life After Death Of Pet Cat

Lucknow: A 32-year-old woman from Amroha in Uttar Pradesh took her own life on Saturday after the death of her pet cat. According to the woman’s family, the cat died on Thursday.
“Pooja was shell shocked. She refused to accept that her pet was dead. We asked her to bury the animal, but she hugged the body for two days before taking her own life,” a relative said.
Pooja was apparently married to a man from Delhi nearly eight years ago. She got divorced two years later and returned to her family in Hasanpur, Amroha. To overcome her loneliness, Pooja adopted a cat.
“On Saturday, Pooja finally realised that her pet wouldn’t come back to life. She went to a room on the third floor of the house and locked herself in. In the afternoon, her mother Gajra Devi went to check. After there was no response, the door was broken down. Pooja was found hanging inside,” the relative added.
The police took away Pooja’s body and sent it for autopsy. A forensic team went to her house to look for clues.
According to psychiatrists, such deaths are rare but not unheard of. People who suffer mental trauma, after separation or some other cause, often build special bonds with animals. When the animal passes away, they get further traumatised and end up doing something like this.
