Puri: Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Keshav Prasad Maurya on Saturday offered puja at Jagannath temple in Odisha’s Puri.
Maurya, who is on one-day visit to Puri, arrived at Jagannath temple in the evening. Senior servitor of the temple Madhusudan Singhari received him and presented a sacred cloth to him.
Then Maurya went inside the temple to perform puja of the deities. He spent nearly half an hour inside the temple.
Speaking to media persons on his return from the temple, the deputy chief minister said he felt blessed to have darshan of Lord Jagannath on the pious occasion of Ashtami of Dussehra.
“I prayed to the Lord for peace and prosperity of the country and Odisha. I also sought Jagannath ji’s blessings for election of Narendra Modi as prime minister for third time,” he said.
Maurya said construction of Ram Mandir at Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh has reached the final stage and will be opened to devotees in January coming year. “Ramlala will be worshipped in the magnificent temple after 500 years,” he added.
