Bhubaneswar: A day after the Odisha government called upon all the wards in municipal corporations and areas, except Bhadrak municipality, to elect the chairpersons and councillors, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation on Thursday published the final voters’ list.
The BMC stated that the urban polls will be held in 705 booths across the city and 7,25,765 persons will exercise their franchise.
The voters’ list will be made available in all zonal offices and the Corporation’s headquarters. It will be available at the Ward offices, an official said.
In two separate notifications, the Housing and Urban Development (H&UD) department said that it is expedient to hold elections to reconstitute 107 municipalities, notified area councils (NACs) and three municipal corporations as the terms of the elected representatives have been completed. The municipal corporations are Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC), Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) and Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC).
Earlier this month, the BMC had released the draft voters list, having identified 7,27,456 eligible voters in 67 wards of the capital city based on the electoral roll issued by the Election Commission with January 1 as the qualifying date. Voters were asked to file their claims and objections before the election officer till February 16.
