Bhubaneswar: Odia physicist Dr Prasanta K Misra breathed his last on Wednesday at the age of 85. His last rites will be performed at Sugar Land Mortuary in the US on Saturday.
Prasanta was born in Odisha’s Dhenkanal to the late Justice J K Misra snd Parbati Misra He grew up in Cuttack. He did his masters from Utkal University, Bhubaneswar, and was then selected as a Fulbright Scholar to study in the US.
Dr Misra was a Theoretical Physicist with a PhD from Tufts University Boston, MA and Post Doctorate from The University of Texas at Austin He was the first professor and head of Department of Physics at Berhampur University, where he built the programme brick-by-brick.
Misra has published over 100 papers in international publications He worked as a professor at Temple University, Louisiana State University, University of Rhode Island and retired as the Chairman of Physics and Environmental Sciences Departments at Colorado Mesa University.
He is survived by his wife Swayamprava, an All India Radio artiste and playback singer, two sons/daughters-in-law and a daughter/son-in-law.
