Washington/Tehran: The United States and Iran are reportedly engaged in discussions over a possible 45-day ceasefire. It is as part of diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the ongoing conflict in West Asia.

The proposed truce is believed to be part of a two phase peace framework. The initial 45-day ceasefire is aimed at creating space for negotiations toward a permanent solution. If talks need time, the temporary truce could get an extension.

Reports suggest that several regional countries, including Pakistan, Egypt and Turkey, are acting as mediators between Washington and Tehran. Diplomatic communicatio

n is also said to be taking place through indirect channels and intermediaries.

Negotiations are focusing on the following aspects:

Reopening the strategically important Strait of Hormuz

Iran’s nuclear programme and uranium enrichment concerns

Sanctions relief and security guarantees

The talks come amid heightened pressure and deadlines linked to regional security concerns. Reports indicate that the United States has warned of possible retaliatory action if Iran fails to meet certain conditions related to maritime security and regional stability.

Despite intensified diplomacy, analysts suggest the chances of reaching a quick agreement remain uncertain, with significant differences still existing between the two sides.

The conflict has raised concerns globally, particularly due to its potential impact on oil supplies and regional security.  Diplomatic efforts are on as stakeholders across the world push for a breakthrough. This is to prevent further escalation and stabilise the region.
