New Delhi: The US military conducted a drone strike against an Islamic State member believed to be involved in future attacks, according to a report by Reuters. The step came in less than 48 hours after incidents of suicide bombing rocked the evacuation process at the Kabul airport
On Thursday, a suicide bombing claimed to have been carried out by ISIS-Khorasan had killed as many as 169 Afghans and 13 American service members at the Kabul airport.
The US Central Command said a drone strike was conducted in Nangahar, east of Kabul. The strike killed one individual, and there were no known civilian casualties, the Associated Press quoted spokesman Navy Capt. William Urban as saying.
However, it wasn’t immediately known if the ISIS-K planner was involved in Thursday’s Kabul airport attack.
US President Joe Biden had vowed to hunt down those responsible for the attack, and said he had ordered the Pentagon to come up with plans to strike at the perpetrators.
Following the airstrike, the US Embassy in Kabul issued a security alert for its citizens at the Kabul airport, asking them to immediately leave the Abbey gate, East gate, North gate or the New Ministry of Interior gate.
