Washington: In a joint social media post with her husband and US Vice President JD Vance, US second lady Usha—an Indian-origin woman— declared that the couple was expecting their fourth child.
“We’re very excited to share the news that Usha is pregnant with our fourth child, a boy,” the couple said in a joint social media statement.
“Usha and the baby are doing well, and we are all looking forward to welcoming him in late July,” the statement further reads.
The couple already has three young children — Ewan, Vivek and Mirabel—in a growing household.
“During this exciting and hectic time, we are particularly grateful for the military doctors who take excellent care of our family and for the staff members who do so much to ensure that we can serve the country while enjoying a wonderful life with our children,” the statement reads.

Vance and Usha Vance met while studying at Yale Law School and married in 2014. Before becoming second lady, Usha Vance built a distinguished legal career, working at Munger, Tolles & Olson LLP and clerking for John Roberts as well as Brett Kavanaugh during his time on the federal appeals court, reported India Today.
It is to be noted that Vance has, for years, made declining birth rates a central theme of his political messaging. The Republican leader had frequently argued that the US needs to encourage larger families and reverse demographic decline, according to a News 18 report.
In 2021, Vance had first raised the issue prominently during his campaign for the US Senate from Ohio. At that time, he had reportedly warned that the falling birth rates posed long-term risks to American society and economic strength. He has continued to press the point as vice president, reports claim.
Reports claim that it is a historic first. While ex-Presidents such as John F. Kennedy and Grover Cleveland had children during their time in office, this was the first instance of a sitting vice president conceiving a child.
According to the Associated Press, Cleveland’s wife Frances had given birth to their second child in 1893 during his second term.
