US Teen Shot Dead By Father In Pakistan For Posting Tik Tok Videos

Delhi: A man ,who recently moved his family back to southwestern Pakistan from the United States, allegedly shot his 15-year-old daughter for posting videos on TikTok.

“The shooting happened on Tuesday in Quetta,” said Babar Baloch, a local police chief told ABC News. 

The girl, identified as Hira, a US national, was allegedly shot dead by her father and uncle as they were reportedly upset over her sharing “objectionable” content on TikTok, a platform with 54 million users in Pakistan. The family had arrived at Quetta in Balochistan province on January 15. 

The report, quoting Baloch, further stated that the girl’s father and uncle have been arrested in connection with the murder. “We are investigating if the father brought his daughter to Pakistan specifically to kill her due to stricter laws in the US,” he added,

The family had moved to the US about 28 years ago.

This is not the first case of ‘honour killing’ of a Pakistani girl born abroad during a visit to Pakistan or elsewhere. 

In October last year, a man killed his mother, sister, sister-in-law, and niece in Karachi after they refused to stop making TikTok videos. In another disturbing incident, a man strangled his wife in front of his parents while a friend filmed the murder. The video went viral, leading to the arrest of the man and his family in Punjab.

In 2024, at least 346 women and 185 men were killed in honour killings in Pakistan, while the numbers were 314 and 176 respectively the previous year, according to a TOI report.
