Washington: The US flagged a major concern for the global LGBTQIA+ community.
The Joe Biden administration warned that terror organisations may attempt to target LGBT events around the world during Pride month in June.
“Due to potential terrorist attacks, demonstrations or violent actions against US citizens and interests, the Department of State advises US citizens overseas to exercise increased caution,” the State Department said in a global security advisory.
“Stay alert in locations frequented by tourists, including Pride celebrations… Exercise increased caution,” State department said.
Friday’s advisory came a week after a similar alert issued by US Law enforcement agencies, reported BBC.
No specific gathering or location was mentioned. However, Law enforcement agencies said that messages from the Islamic State (IS) group distributed messages in English last year some of which were against events and venues of LGBTQIA+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Queer, Intersex and Asexual) people.
It may be recalled that during Pride Month in June 2016, an IS ideology-inspired man shot dead 49 people at Pulse, a gay nightclub in Florida.
