Use Latest Technology To Beat Criminals, Odisha CM Advises Cops

Cuttack: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Monday advised the police to use latest technology to not only beat the criminals but also solve the crime.

Speaking at the valedictory function of 69th Duty Meet of Odisha Police in Cuttack, the Chief Minister said like other spheres of life, crime has also become technology driven. Keeping this in view, the police should put the technology to their good use, he added.

Stating that cases of cyber crime have been on the rise of late, Majhi said the state government was committed to control it in all possible ways. “A dedicated cyber crime branch will be set up to ensure faster investigation into the cyber frauds. A senior police officer will head the branch whose headquarters will be located in Bhubaneswar. Besides, government is planning to open cyber police stations in all districts,” he said.

The Chief Minister further said the government was taking steps for modernisation of the state’s police force by increasing its strength. “Steps are being taken to fill up 10,000 posts in the Home Department to enhance the efficiency of Odisha Police,” he added.

In order to improve the performance of the police, the government has decided to provide high-performance vehicles and two-wheelers to each police station.

“The government will provide 9,000 two-wheelers to the police stations so that each of those will have at least six two-wheelers. Rs 35 crore has been sanctioned for the purpose,” the chief minister said.

He inaugurated the new buildings of Astarang, Balanga and Delang police stations in Puri district on the occasion.
