Using Nuke Against India Could Have Global Consequences: Imran Khan

Lahore: Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday said his country will not be the first to use the nuclear weapon against India.

“We both (Pakistan and India) are nuclear-armed countries. If these tensions increase, the world could be in danger,” news wire Reuters said, quoting Khan.

The Pakistani premier was addressing members of the Sikh religious community here. “There will be no first from our side ever,” he added.

Khan’s statement comes against the backdrop of mounting tensions between India and Pakistan after the Narendra Modi government abrogated Article 370 that gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir and divided the state into two halves.

Significantly, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh had in August indicated that India might review its ‘no first use’ nuclear policy.

“The government firmly stands by its ‘no first use’ policy but what happens in future will depend on the circumstances, Singh had said.
