Singapore: Odisha-born Bollywood singer Krishna Beuraa set the tone for Utkala Dibasa celebrations in Singapore, belting out popular Hindi and Odia songs.
He started with a devotional number ‘Ahe Nila Saila’ and had the audience in splits with his mimicry of Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachan and other actors.
The cultural extravaganza organised by the Odia Society of Singapore also saw some eminent personalities from Odisha taking the stage. Author Dr. Pratibha Ray, MP and industrialist Baijayant Panda and actress Anu Choudhury graced the occasion.
The Odia community in Singapore felt privileged to celebrate Utkala Dibasa in Singapore with these living icons. More so, since they had come all the way from India only for this event!
One-on-one with these distinguished guests was an added attraction.
The celebration also saw a classical dance performance ‘Ma Durga’ by Indu Kanan and her group and a music medley performed by 21 children.
Annual signature award of the society, ‘Singapore Odia Ratna 2018’, was given to Soumya Ranjan Singh for his contribution to the development of the community in Singapore. He received the award from Baijayant Panda.
The Society also paid tribute to noted Odia Bhajan singer late Arabinda Muduli, who had earlier attended its events in 2016 and 2017.
