Berhampur: Omkar Dhillon, a middle-aged man from Uttarakhand, who is on a tour across India by foot to campaign against the use of the electronic voting machine (EVM), arrived in Berhampur in Ganjam district with a hand-drivel trolley on Monday.
Talking to mediapersons, Dhillon claimed that a government elected through the EVM system cannot give good administration to the people.
“It has come to the notice that wherever the elections are conducted through EVM, the votes of other parties go to a particular party. The Election Commission of India (ECI) has not provided detailed information about the functioning of the EVM on its official website. To make the people aware of the tampering of votes in EVM, I have on a mission “EVM Hatao, Desh Bachao” across the country,” Dhillon said.
The anti-EVM campaigner said he has already covered 4,500 km by foot. “I have covered New Delhi, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. My next destination is Bhubaneswar from where I will travel to Jharkhand, Kolkata and Bihar. From Bihar, I will head towards Delhi and reach there in April after covering a distance of 2,000 km,” he added.
Stating that he has received unstinting support and encouragement from the people to carry on his mission, Dhillon thanked the people of Berhampur who offered him food and money.
