Vacant Posts In MKCG MCH In Berhampur To Be Filled Up In 2 Weeks, Says Principal

Berhampur: The authorities of MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Odisha’s Berhampur have announced that the vacancies in different posts will be filled up within 2 weeks.

The MKCG authorities made the announcement following dharna by journalists in front of the hospital’s gate protesting large scale transfer of professors and assistant professors even as huge vacancy in their posts. The scribes, who continued the agitation for 4 days, demanded the authorities to fill up the vacant posts soon.

Clarifying the situation, principal of MKCG MCH Prof Abani Kanta Mishra, in a release, said out of total 39 professor posts in 35 departments in the prestigious medical college, 35 have been filled up while 4 posts are lying vacant. Similarly, 51 additional professors are now working against total 81 posts and there are 30 vacancies. At present there are 152 assistant professors against 163 sanctioned posts.

The principal further said some medical faculty have been transferred to be posted in upcoming medical colleges in Keonjhar and Sundargarh districts. The state government has already applied to National Medical Commission (NMC) to open the two medical colleges.

As per the NMC norms, a new medical college must have at least 6 professors, 20 additional professors and 24 assistant professors. In order to fill up these posts in new colleges, the government has transferred some faculty from SCB MCH at Cuttack and MKCG MCH at Berhampur, he added.

Stating that the government has been according importance to MKCG as a prestigious medical college of Odisha, Prof Mishra said 11 additional professors, 16 tutors and 4 senior residents were appointed in the medical college on May 17 and 19. The government is also taking steps to fill up the rest vacant posts within two weeks, he added in the release.
