Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police on Friday said it would take action against BJP Mahila Morcha activists who had vandalised the office of the Odisha State Commission for Women on Thursday.
“Police has received a complaint lodged by the chairperson of the Odisha State Commission for Women against some BJP Mahila Morcha activists who had vandalized the office during a protest on Thursday. Acting on the complaint, police will examine the footage from the CCTV installed at the office of the Women’s Commission, identify those who were involved in the incident and take appropriate action against them,” Police Commissioner YB Khurania said.
Expressing resentment over the inaction of the State Women’s Commission on the suicide of the minor girl of Musaguda village who was gang-raped in Kunduli area in Koraput district, hundreds of BJP Mahila Morcha activists on Thursday had barged into the office of the Women Commission and ransacked furniture and other office stationeries.
They also had a scuffle with the police who tried to prevent them from entering the office.
The Morcha activists had also alleged that the chairperson of the Commission has done her best to save her seat and protect the Chief Minister. Maintaining that the Commission is not working for the women rather safeguarding the interest of the government, they said the chairperson has remained absent in her office most of the time. Besides, she has not properly dealt with any major cases relating to atrocities on woman till date, they had pointed out.
