Rayagada: The low-lying areas in Odisha’s Gunupur district faced flood threat as Vansadhara river was flowing above warning mark at Gunupur.
The rainfall, which had stopped for three days bringing down the water level of Vansadhara, started increasing again following torrential rain in the district since Friday night. The upper catchment areas of the river, Chandrapur, Muniguda and Gudari received heavy rainfall overnight.
According to official sources, Vansadhara was flowing at 83.45 metre at Gunupur at 5 pm on Saturday. While the warning mark of the river is 83 metre, the danger mark is 84 metre. The water level of two other major rivers in the district, Nagabali and Jhanjabati, had also gone up.
Highest rainfall of 95 mm in the district was recorded in Muniguda block during the last 24 hours. Kasipur block received 39 mm rainfall, Gunupur 20 mm, Rayagada 37.8, Kolnara 24.3, Kalyansinghpur 56.2, Padmapur 16, Gudari 16.6, Ramanaguda 10.2, Bisamkatak 81.6 and Chandrapur 30.7 mm.
