New Delhi: Vedanta Aluminium has expanded billet production capacity at its Jharsuguda operations in Odisha, taking the total capacity to 830 KTPA, thereby placing it among the largest billet manufacturing operations globally.
Thanks to this substantial scale-up, Vedanta Aluminium — India’s largest aluminium producer and the country’s leading billet manufacturer – will be able to supply high-quality products to customers worldwide, broadening its value-added product (VAP) portfolio, and further reinforcing its role in supporting India’s fast-growing extrusion and downstream sectors.
Vedanta Aluminum’s billets, available in diameters ranging from 5 to 12 inches, are semifinished products used in extrusion processes to create precision-engineered profiles. These profiles support critical industries including infrastructure, transportation, renewable energy, electrical systems, consumer goods, and packaging.
The e
xpansion adds 250 KTPA of new capacity to the existing 580 KTPA billet infrastructure, thus positioning Jharsuguda among largest aluminium billet production sites globally. It also reinforces Vedanta Aluminium’s leadership in the Indian market, where it already supplies over half of the country’s domestic billet demand.
The billet facility is equipped with advanced casting and homogenizing technology from global leaders Wagstaff (USA) and Hertwich (Austria).
Additionally, a new 120 KTPA Primary Foundry Alloy (PFA) facility has been set up at the site, further expanding the company’s PFA production capabilities.
“Vedanta Aluminium is committed to building a globally competitive, self-reliant aluminium manufacturing base for India. The accelerated expansion at our Jharsuguda operations is a crucial step toward achieving that vision. This scale-up enhances our ability to serve high-growth industries and reinforces India’s position as a rising force in the global aluminium landscape. We remain focused on delivering long-term value for the nation and all our stakeholders,” said Rajiv Kumar, CEO, Vedanta Aluminium.
Vedanta Jharsuguda CEO C Chandru said it’s a “testament to the company’s focus on expanding value-added aluminium production with speed, technical excellence, and adherence to global standards.”
