Vedanta Aluminium’s Stall A Major Attraction At Chaiti Mahotsav In Odisha’s Rayagada

Rayagada: Vedanta Aluminium’s stall has turned a major attraction for the visitors at the ‘Chaiti Mahotsav’ in Odisha’s Rayagada.

The stall features a fusion of heritage art showcasing Saura paintings, Dokra art forms, traditional tribal art and crafts along with the products from self-help groups (SHGs) prepared by the Project Sakhi which empowers women as micro-entrepreneurs. Its live Saura art hand painting counter garnered significant interest among the visitors.

The stall has also an array of exhibits from Vedanta’s newly-acquired hockey team – Kalinga Lancers, the defending champions in the on-going Hockey India League (HIL). The display included the team’s mascot, player highlights, and the trophy.

During his visit to the stall, Rayagada MLA Kadraka Allapaswamy said, “Vedanta Aluminium’s involvement in Chaiti Mahotsav not only highlights their dedication to cultural heritage, but also plays a crucial role in enhancing the socio-economic fabric of our community. Their efforts to support local artisans and promote traditional crafts are commendable.”

Bisamcuttack MLA Nilamadhab Hikaka also visited the stall and appreciated the efforts of the company in promoting tribal culture.

 Speaking on the initiative, Sunil Gupta, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Vedanta Aluminium said, “Our participation in Chaiti Mahotsav reflects our commitment to supporting the local artisans and promoting indigenous art forms. By engaging with the community in this way, we foster a spirit of entrepreneurship that empowers individuals and enriches our cultural landscape.”

On the third day of the festival, Rayagada collector Parul Patawari visited the Vedanta stall. She appreciated the traditional Dokra and Shora products and purchased some items. Rayagada SP Swathy S Kumar accompanied her.

Besides, District Programme Manager and Sub-Divisional Police Officer visited the stall and extended their support to Vedanta’s efforts in promoting art, culture, and community development.

Through its active participation in Chaiti Mahotsav, Vedanta Aluminium played a crucial role in enabling local artisans, self-help groups, and students to display their skills and projects to the larger community by providing them a platform for recognition and potential growth. Thus, the company continues to champion cultural preservation while driving socio-economic development in Rayagada.

Since its inception in 2005, this annual cultural festival, has been celebrating the rich tribal heritage of communities in the region, serving as a vibrant platform to promote tribal art and culture.

More than 500 artists from across the country are participating in the festival which has attracted over 25,000 visitors.
