Jharsuguda: India’s first K-pop star from Odisha’s Jharsuguda district, Sriya Lenka, was felicitated by Vedanta Limited, Jharsuguda on the occasion of World Music Day on Tuesday.
Sunil Gupta, CEO, Vedanta Jharsuguda felicitated the young sensation at a function held on the plant premises. “Odisha is a land of immense talent and Sriya is a testament to the vast young talent pool of artists nurtured across the State. Her noteworthy achievement has put Jharsuguda in the world map that will further encourage youth in the region to stride forward in pursuit of their dreams. At Vedanta, we have always endeavoured to promote such talents and as partners in progress of the state, we strive to ensure that more such success stories emerge from this region,” said Gupta.
Sriya made headlines after she was selected as fifth member of the girl K-pop band ‘Blackswan’. A trained dancer, singer and yoga practitioner, 18-year-old Shriya was chosen from among 4,000 applicants through a YouTube audition programme that began in June 2021.
The global audition was held by South Korean music label DR Music Entertainment in an effort to add members. The highly acclaimed multi-national girl group, Blackswan, has K-pop idols from Brazil and Belgium apart from South Korea.
