Vehicle Rams 2 Officials, 1 Dead; Lockdown Imposed At US Capitol

Washington: A police officer at the US Capitol got killed and another injured after a vehicle hit the security and cashed into the barrier of the Washington Complex. The complex went into another lockdown less than three months following mob violence on Congress.

Capitol Police shot the driver dead after he jumped out of the car and lunged at them with a knife, Acting Chief Yogananda Pittman said.

US President Joe Biden, who was at Camp David for the Easter holiday with First Lady Jill Biden, offered his “heartfelt condolences” to the cop William Evans’ family. The veteran policeman was killed in the attack.

“Jill and I were heartbroken to learn of the violent attack at a security checkpoint on the US Capitol grounds,” Biden was quoted as saying via a statement by news agency AFP.
