Very Heavy Rain To Lash Odisha From Tomorrow; Fresh Cyclonic Circulation Over Bay By Aug 24

Bhubaneswar: Odisha is likely to experience very heavy rain for 3 days from Friday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Thursday.

According to the midday bulletin, the low-pressure area over north Bangladesh and neighbourhood is likely to move nearly westwards across West Bengal during the next 48 hours. “A cyclonic circulation is also likely to form over North Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood around August 24,” it added.

The weather agency has forecast heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) and thunderstorm with lightning at one or two places in Bargarh, Balangir, Nuapada, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Khurda, Puri, Jajpur, Sundargarh and Jharsuguda districts till 8.30 am on Friday.

Bhubaneswar may experience cloudy sky with one or two spells of rain or thundershower.

Orange warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) and thunderstorm with lightning has been issued for Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar during the subsequent 24 hours (August 23). Heavy rain and thunderstorm with lightning may also occur at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sundargarh and Jharsuguda districts.

On August 24, heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorm and lightning is likely at one or two places in Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Jajpur, Angul and Dhenkanal. Heavy rain and thunderstorm with lightning may also occur at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Khurda, Nayagarh, Puri, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Nabarangpur, Koraput, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, and Deogarh.

Heavy to very heavy rain and thunderstorm with lightning may continue at one or two places in Sambalpur, Angul, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sonepur and Boudh on August 25. Heavy rain and thunderstorm with lightning may also occur at one or two places in Bhadrak, Keonjhar, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Sundargarh, Kandhamal, Balangir, Nuapada,Deogarh and Dhenkanal district.

There is no weather warning thereafter and the intensity of rain may gradually decrease across the state during the subsequent two days, it added.
